Project: Contemporary Abstract Art
Biography
My name is Jonathan Logan Mawanda. I was born and raised in Kyebando, Kampala Uganda: Mrs. Janet Namirimu (mother) and the Late Samuel Kayemba my parents. I am from a humble background of 6, 3 brothers and 1 sister raised by a single hardworking mother.
I believe Art was a calling I got from God, it's not that it's a family talent.
Education background
It all started at Hormisdallen Primary School, Kyebando. I got an interest in art and drawing in my primary seven where I used to draw cartoons and superheroes in my art book which I still own up to date. Slowly my love for art developed. Later I went to Seeta High School, mukono, and St. Julian High School, Gayaza where I completed my O'level. Through my time at O'level, I improved my art through the skills added to me by my teachers. Ddnt stop there and advanced to Naalya SS Bwogerere, where I finished my A'level. Here I was greatly aided by my teacher Mr. Kikonyogo Andrew who helped me develop as an artist, especially still-life drawing.
I went and pursued a Bachelor's degree in Industrial fine art and design at Uganda Christian University where I excelled with a second-class upper.
At campus, I developed a lot and got to know Amy's strengths and weaknesses as an artist, I specialized in painting though I went through the sculpture, fashion, and fabrics basics which greatly added a lot to me. I got inspiration from some of my lecturers like Mr. Banadda Godfrey and Mr. Sentamu Ashe who taught me as a painter.
I would say I am a Contemporary Abstract visual artist/painter. My works are inspired by some of the great historical artists like Da Vinci, and Pablo Picasso and also mainly the environment I live in and the experiences we go through as people in the society. I like my art to communicate with people because I believe Art can speak a thousand words that can't be spoken. My art and painting have impacted society by adding beauty to interiors and communicating thus touching people's lives for instance a painting I made titled "ADDICTION".
